You Choose !!! No you don’t

I am not much in to poetry but a brilliant former student of mine is indeed a class in herself. I just happened to see her poetry this morning as she blogged her fresh content and indeed I liked it. It was titled as YOU CHOOSE

You choose the people who betray you in life,

You choose the ones who put you in strife.

So when you shed tears for those who you lost,

Remember you were willing to pay the cost

(© Fatima Azhar)

Indeed it was quite mesmerizing but somehow I felt a bit different about it, so my response was something as NO YOU DON’T

Choices I made, were meant to be

For that you know, I can’t blame thee

There is something, we call The Fate

Admit or not but that’s it mate

I hope you will like it for a change 🙂

Death of Legacies!!! Financial Issues or Insjustice?

Television had been an important part of our lives since its emergence. It is one of the continuously changing aspect of our lives that had been with us for so long. Every individual in some phase of his life must have adored some characters from TV. It could either be a cartoon, a drama serial or even a puppet show (yeah don’t forget sesame street, I remember it because i didn’t like it at all).

Back in my days of childhood we didn’t have dedicated channels of cartoons or movies. We were just restricted to some infinitesimal time slots in which we could cherish our favorite shows. I remember that just to watch five minutes of cartoon show in the morning before leaving for school was one of the major achievements of the day and it meant something like someone has awarded you the bragging rights. We were not critics back then and we appreciated whatever we had got (it was a blessing of course).

I even liked a show which was far from my understandings at that age but I loved to watch those characters. “Kaliyaan” and “Kaliyaan plus” was one of the popular puppet show back in 90s and I have no shame in admitting that I couldn’t understand most of what they presented back then but I cherished them mostly because we were cartoon deprived. It was a show mostly highlighting the evils of society and sarcasm bombardment on government policies but in a very light way. Now we all run the same show on Facebook in a different ways.

Guest House was another famous drama serial which was a sort of show which we could easily call the family show. Of course it doesn’t comply with the modern day family movies or TV shows as whole family could watch it in a single room on a single TV without feeling uncomfortable or to feel the need to change channels. It wasn’t because we didn’t have much options in terms of channels available or because we didn’t have many TV sets in same home but because content was too nice and appropriate. We do have a different meaning of family shows now where every member of the family can watch a show but individually (Even cartoons are hard to manage these days).

Anyways, I wanted to buy a SIM card for one of my phones (don’t worry I won’t be setting off bombs with it and stop thinking why I needed it, I just have a spare slot in my dual sim phone and I wanted it to be filled…yeah its a nerd perfectionist thing). When I entered the shop, I saw a familiar face. I don’t claim that I have an awesome memory but I do recognize some faces. I asked him if he was Anjum Habibi from Kaliyaan and he nodded saying yes I am. I was surprised that what is he doing here, he had a good career in sitcoms let alone the shows I have mentioned. After selecting the number of my choice I engaged him into a conversation.

After ensuring that he doesn’t feel embarrassed or anything close to that. I appreciated his work in Kaliyaan and told him that show like that could continue forever as it discussed the matters of society in a very light way and every single episode of that is still so valid (as the change flag bearers are not even close to evolution let alone revolution). He agreed but didn’t gave a clear answer for that. Based on my previous knowledge I asked him much bluntly that in one of the interview of Farooq Qaiser (the team leader and director of the show) said that his team caused that show to end and it was because of dishonesty and lack of commitment of some team mates. He also said that some of the men could not handle the fame and were too demanding. This avalanched the mood barrier of Mr. Anjum, he said “it’s so sad to hear what he said. He was given 200,000 for shows and set of episodes and he only paid us 2000 to 4000 even when we were team of 6 to 8. He kept on doing that and eventually we can’t wear masks like that and do multiple characters for peanuts”. I further inquired that it was an era of PTV (the national TV channel, it still exists but don’t watch it as it doesn’t criticize government as much as we want and tell us peaceful stuff so doesn’t fill our appetite for violent and aggressive TV). He agreed and said “we got PTV monthly cheques but all bonuses and extra awards (which were frequent) were the one which were not shared at all. He (Farooq Qaiser) claimed it to be his personal effort and didn’t share a thing with his team”. He also added “TV is not that nice to us anymore said in a painful way. This is my PCO/photostate shop(s) and I do some other business too”. It almost was a killing moment for me to see one of the beautiful characters of old times who smiled with lots of regret and painin his eyes when he said “This isn’t a very good place to live for a man with honesty, people don’t let you live with simplicity; we have different reasons but we are stuck here else we would have left. There is so much injustice even amongst our ranks and co-workers. People treat you badly, slap you with injustice and then accuse you too”

I shook his hands, took a pic with him and left with strange and mixed feelings. At one hand I was happy to see and meet a person who had been a part of wonderful plays which I enjoyed in last two decades and other hand I was hurt about the misery and struggle he was going through and just because of unjustified treatment by team mates and co-workers. It’s quite common here that bosses take all the credit and often leave employees or team mates behind totally unappreciated. Even a horse is patted by the rider as a sign of appreciation but unfortunately we are not horses and we aren’t being ridden by nice guys either. It is also common that it is not possible for simple straight edge guy to survive the brutality of financial hardships; why? Simply because honest efforts are not appreciated. Even I have seen many people who felt no shame whatsoever in climbing over the shoulders of their mentors quite wickedly and calling it opportunity utilization.

Injustice, in any form does kill the soul of a living being. What we can do is to deny this non sense theory that if u deny someone their rights then that is the only way to move forward. We still can get all the success by legal and rightful means if we just add the element of patience and consistent effort. As rightly said “Not more as what is in your fate and not before time”.

Stay happy, keep happy, respect rights of others and believe in helping not depriving others.  🙂

I wonder why

A wonderful piece of art …. worth your time …. from my former student

Fatima Azhar

The darkness which enveloped me,

Was haunting to a certain degree.

As the candle in my hand reduced to a stub,

And the walls, my shoulder rub.

All their words come back to me,

Burn me, cut me, bring me to my knee.

I hide my pain from the world,

The sky around me swirled.

Broken down, I sit alone,

Destroyed and shaken to the bone.

Nothing matters any more,

They have crushed even my core.

The world is cruel and people more so,

Pain and hurt they love to bestow.

Losing all; even my mind,

Peace I can never find.

Maybe this i how it was supposed to be,

Maybe I wasn’t meant to be free.

Chained to a wall, trying to get away,

While the claws try to make me stay.

It hurts, it burns, it makes me cry,

I can’t help wonder why.

A Thief in Abeyance

It was middle of a peaceful passage of night; when I was suddenly woken up by my better half to ruin the later half of the night. Surprised and stunned I looked at the fan, it was working, then gazed at the AC which was functional too. In my typical husband’s brain I tried to figure out what has happened so wrong that she had to wake me up as it was one of the most unholiest act and of course a very dangerous move. Such act is only allowed by WAPDA and that too in case of malfunctioned UPS. I quickly tried to recall when was the last time I took her to her mom’s home and realized with my unconscious mind that I was in safe limits rather I realized we just came back that night from her mom’s home. Now totally short of ideas I looked at her and asked what every husband would ask his wife even in normal conditions “Whats wrong?” which actually meant “Whats the hell is so wrong with you?” (yeah men think that way but often doesn’t say it to save the time) and realizing that the question was pretty silly to ask on the first place; “There is nothing wrong with her…. she is a wife…..she is meant to be that way”. Recalling this answer I asked her again and she pointed towards the back window of our room. I focused my attention at the window and realized that there is a loud fuss going on at the back of our house.

Understanding the seriousness of the situation and trying to believe that it was not a hangover due to food at in-laws; I got out of the bed and approached the window which could give me a better view of whats going on. What i witnessed was weird, there was a man sitting at the back wall which was adjoining to our back wall neighbor’s and was begging that he should not be handed over to police. Well, that was the moment when I really woke up even though I was standing and witnessing it for much longer. Before I could think of anything I tried to follow the conversation. Now let me explain the geography at the back side of my house. The home right back to my house is a double storey building while the one next to it is a single storey. My back wall neighbors were asking him where did he come from? (which of course meant which path has he followed to reach the place where he could sit like a SpiderMan). He replied that he used the wall of the single storey home to to reach their roof and from there he came to the point and now he was sitting at the back wall-nexus of four homes.  The back wall neighbors assured him they wont harm him and before i could decide to go out he climbed the roof of single storey home and from there he was taken by the arm and it seemed as he was boarding a ship but of course his next journey wasn’t going to be nice.

It was pretty safe now as the thief was caught. Oh! did I use the word thief; yeah I did. I moved out of the home and of course had a gathering later on and the caught guy gave a strange story. He said that he along with four men were hired from a village near Wazirabad and he was assured that he would be given Rs.500 per day and food to participate in Tahir-ul-Qadri’s rally but they abandoned him and now he needed money to get back home. At first I thought that he was lying but when he was handed over to police and police confirmed that that four more men were caught from the same street, it really made me believe that he was telling it right. Any one after the incidents would be way too stupid to tell police (yeah police) that he belonged to Qadri (police would be aching to beat the hell out of him for the beating they took recently). That was more like he demanded to rot in hell (of course at local police station).

After everything settled and I was done appreciating the alertness of our neighbors, I of course could analyze it and say a few words about it as it could make me sound intellectual (that’s what everyone does on FB these days I mean contrive to sound intellectual) but it really made me think that whether he was telling the truth or not, whether he was hired to participate in mob or not, what if he really was. That means that man power can easily be bought (hired) to do any evil act, that’s how we harbor terrorists? He could have been sleeping peacefully at his home if he wasn’t that poor and his needs didn’t make him a sell out. Even if he wasn’t hired to do so he wasn’t there because he did not like the model of his Ferrari or Lamborghini. The way he was begging to let him go reminded me of the saying “Hate the crime not the criminal”. After being caught he was just an ordinary man looking totally helpless telling that they could go to his village to see how needy he is. That made sense to me that why would he travel such a large distance to make robberies. Anyways, this is how needs turn normal men into criminals and even terrorists. You can easily buy a man if you can buy him his needs.

Alleviating the poverty, providing jobs maintaining balance in economy and of course education are the things which not only can make us a better nation but would also help us to make our face better in international community because such people when go abroad (either legally or illegally) are the ones who ruin the face of the country but they don’t belong to any country they just belong to the poverty club which isn’t much fancy at all.

Take care everyone, look around and help anyone you can before he starts opting for a wrong path. That may be the right move for you to contribute good to society and the world. Thank you 🙂

Social Media and Dangers Imparted

Danger associated with social mediaSocial media despite of its advantages had been pretty controversial in recent times. Dangerous is the word which can easily be attributed to it in many aspects. Much had been written on its moral obligations and a bit about its remedies but here I want to write about what I had been observing in recent scenario when a very condemnable act happened in Lahore by the hands of Punjab Police.

Despite of the fact that many of my friends accuse me of supporting a party in a very conventional way; however i deny any such affiliations. I am a typical Pakistani with many flaws. After the incident I witnessed many posts which were mainly between supporters of PTI and PML(N) in which they tried to accuse one another using many pictorial posts with many altered captions. I must confess I had been re-posting many of them too. But being a patriot I had to observe the whole scenario neutrally. I would get to that point what my actual point of view is on all what happened, for now i can only condemn it.

Many fake pictures were used by both groups and in a few moments one could easily see the retaliating post or clarification of the accusation on any previous posts. I really began to wonder that now it is possible for almost anyone to just take a pic and post it online with any caption they want. Rest of the work would be done by the great spectators of social media who already have mastered in the art of judging.

It’s very easy to accuse; for example I was sick a few days back and while collecting my blood reports i began to think that anyone can take a pic of mine and post it online claiming that I am forcing the lab guys to alter the results so that a dishonest employee like me could avail some holidays. In the same way my son’s forehead busted open while he was playing with scooty and while i was carrying him to the ER of the hospital anyone could have taken a pic and posted it with captions like “A brutal father brutalized his son”. I am glad my wife doesn’t belong to the other party else she would have also accused me of conspiring the whole scene and would have accused my act of purchasing that scooty for the underage and would have demanded me to resign from my current position of being father. Lolz

Anyways, my point is that we have stepped into a very dangerous zone of the social media where posting a pic can ruin someone’s reputation for nothing. We really should be more responsible while posting or re-posting it. As a muslim, as a Pakistani it should be our utmost desire to minimize hatred and promote positivity.

Now a word about what i think of Lahore incident. Indeed a very shameful event for sitting government. Shahbaz Sharif no doubt a good administrator for many development projects really failed to survive here. Regardless of the fact what sort of conspiracy had been prepared, where army is taking on terrorists and all political parties should have supported and postponed their differences for a while; here we have an imported controversial so-called scholar who is making life difficult for everyone. Just suppose that govt is full of flaws but the scholar of religion of peace should have told his followers to step away and avoid chaos or any deaths. On the other hand whoever’s orders it were; it is not acceptable and indeed brutal to open fire on civilians. One cannot deny the birth of future gullu butts/terrorists when one see his mom shot dead with straight bullet fires right before their eyes. It was a slap to humanity. Over all it was a matter of “freaks vs morons”. Of course moron is government here, because it does not matter if someone is conspiring against you or not, you should be capable of tackling every situation.

Mr. Qadri has arrived and has caused a chaos. This is just an attempt to hurt army which is working hard to stabilize matters and eliminate terrorists willing to sacrifice good talibans too. At such stage Zarb-e-Azb is sidelined and a clown is asking army to talk to them. Motives are pretty clear to everyone and may Allah bless Pakistan as next two days are of crucial importance.

And please post responsibly; yes it applies to me too 🙂
